Honey
Authenticity
Do you require help or further information?
Contact us! We are happy to advise you:
If a honey claims a specific floral and/or geographical origin e.g. Chinese Acacia or Scottish Heather then confirmation of its authenticity may be required to support labelling and marketing claims.
We can offer pollen analysis by microscopy as the main tool for geographic and floral origin identification.
Colour testing may also be required if a particular honey type requires verification e.g. Light Amber (LA).
Some specific honey types possess marker substances which can help substantiate and support floral origin claims.
- Methyl Anthranilate – citrus honey verification
- New Zealand MPI Chemical and DNA marker compound – Manuka honey.
- Methyl Glyoxal (MGO) and Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) – Manuka honey
- Leptosperin – Manuka Honey
